painter, cartoonist and caricaturist, was a freelance cartoonist from Victoria who worked for Labor Call in the 1920s (examples of 1923-29 signed 'Ovenden’ and of 1934-35 signed 'Nevo’ in Senyard). In 1955-64 he was librarian at the Herald and Weekly Times, Melbourne. Dick Ovenden did good cartoons for the Australasian Seamen’s Journal (Melbourne Trades Hall) in the 1920s, ed. Tom Walsh. Senyard suggests he is also “Nevo”, a 1930s cartoonist on Labor Call —which seems likely.

Dick Ovenden is represented in the ML Bulletin collection by one original cartoon of 1922 and 81 caricatures 1922-33, including C.W. Bunny, William Coleman, scenic artist, Colin Colahan and John Longstaff.
