Francis Guillemard Simpkinson was a painter, diarist and naval officer. In 1845 at the Hobart Town Art Exhibition, (the first major fine arts exhibition in any of the Australian colonies), Simpkinson showed one watercolour.

painter, diarist and naval officer, was born in London on 26 May 1819, son of John Augustus Francis Simpkinson (later Sir Francis Simpkinson QC), barrister and sometime treasurer of Lincoln’s Inn, and Mary, née Griffin, a sister of Jane Franklin, second wife of Sir John Franklin, governor of Van Diemen’s Land.
