William Blandowski lived in Australia for almost a decade and in that time he explored tracts of Central Victoria and helped found the Geological Society of Victoria in 1852 and was appointed Government Zoologist in April 1854. Upon returning to Germany Blandowski tried fruitlessly for years to get his 4,000 drawings of Australia published.
