cartoonist, began studying at East Sydney Technical College under William Dobell in 1939 when she was 13 years old. The same year, she submitted a number of cartoons to a crossword book being written by George Sherwood. Two were published in Sherwood’s Aussie Ads: Crossword puzzles in 1942. Now Mrs J.B. Barclay. Barclay states that the book was 'presented to King George VI to honour Australian and British troops from World War I’, although Buckingham Palace officials have not been able to confirm either this or its actual existence’ (letter to JK 30/06/99). 'All contributors to the book were given souvenir copies of its first edition’.
