STEP 1 - Contribute a biography

Enter the artist’s family name, given name and gender.

STEP 2 - Confirm as new biography

The DAAO will return results of listed artists with similar names.
> If the artist you wish to write about is already listed on the DAAO you may choose to write a variant biography, or to add commentary to the existing biography.
> If the artist you wish to write about is not listed on the DAAO, click ’yes’ to continue processing your biography.

STEP 3 - Enter core details for the artist

Enter basic details which allow the system to categorise the artist.

STEP 4 - Author licence requirement

Read the author licence agreement and, to accept the agreement on those terms, click ’yes’. A copy of the agreement will be sent to you via email.

Accepting the agreement commits your entry to the database. You now have 1 month to complete your biography.

STEP 5 - Write the biography

Enter body text for the biography and save your changes. Your work will not be submitted until step 7.

STEP 6 - Add details or metadata to the biography

These details help users find specific information about the artist when using advanced search.
For example: a researcher may search for all artists who were born in 1915 and whose work is held in the NGA collection.

STEP 7 - Submit the biography

Choose one of the following options:
> Peer review This will submit your completed biography for peer review and eventual publication.
> Quick review This will submit your completed biography to the DAAO for a quick review by DAAO staff and eventual publication.
> Abandon Choose this option only if you do not wish to proceed with the biography.
> Resume your Biography This will allow you to continue working on the entry.
