1 L., D. G. Current Drawing teacher, advertised in Sydney in August 1844 that she wished 'to engage with a gentleman's family, either as resident or visiting governess. She is competent to instruct in French, music, drawing, painting and every branch of an accomplished education. Letters addressed, post paid, to D.G.L., Herald Office'.
1 L., J. Current J.L. initialled the four watercolours of Norfolk Island in Robert Jones's manuscript journal. However elements of the illustrations are not historically correct for the time that this J.L. was on Norfolk Island.
1 L., S. T. J. S. Current This artist's sketch, dated March 1824, seems to be a work in a series of copies and sketches after previous artists.
1 La Gerche, Geoff Current Late 20th century painter, writer and graphic artist
1 La Mert, Bram Current La Mert was a professional photographer. He claimed to have been a pupil of 'Dr. Diamond, Photographer to the Royal Family and Editor of the Photographic Journal'.
1 La Moile, F. Current professional photographer and painter(?), opened a 'Public Gallery' in Yarra Street, Geelong, Victoria, in 1856 with an exhibition of 'Daguerreotypes, Paintings, Objects of Art and Science', hoping to entice visitors to have a daguerreotype taken.
1 La Touanne, Edmond Bigot De Current La Touanne was a member of a French expedition sent to report on the defence capabilities of the colony. To the residents of Sydney, however, La Touanne's work seemed more an appropriation of artistic copyright than a threat to British sovereignty.
1 La Trobe, Charles Joseph Current A gifted sketcher, colonial administrator and travel writer, he always recorded his travels, and the illustrations in at least two of his four published travel books were based on his sketchbooks. La Trobe was responsible for the development of the Port Phillip area, from a ragged unofficial settlement of 6,000 Europeans to a self-governing colony with a white population of over 80,000.
