sketcher, is now considered to be the artist of a series of undated Tasmanian sketches (c.1850, sold Deutscher Fine Art 1991) previously attributed to Cuthbert Clarke . The majority of the drawings in the George Grey New Zealand albums (British Library) are by Merrett/ Merret, although the second most represented artist is Clarke. Merret also did at least two drawings in the Alexander Turnbull Library previously attributed to Clarke. The New Zealand work of the two men seems to have been closely intertwined. Merret’s The City of Auckland, N.Z. (National Library of Australia), an undated watercolour, is ill. in NLA News January 2000, p.4.
