Sydney Architecture 1945-1975

After World War II, Sydney architects diversely intepreted American modernism’s 'battle of the styles'– between Frank Lloyd Wright’s landscape-responsive 'organic’ design principles (published in 1911) and the 'international style’ of whitewashed and/or glassy buildings which evolved from US emigrés Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, and other 1920s associates around Germany’s Bauhaus school.

This project records biographical and project information about Sydney’s notable modernist architects of the third quarter of the 20th century. Many of these architects also were active 'late modernists’ from 1975 to the 1990s.
