The 9 × 5 Exhibition of Impressions was the only public group exhibition held by Hidelberg artists. The exhibition consisted of 182 works by Charles Conder, R.E. Falls, Frederick McCubbin, C.Douglas Richardson, Tom Roberts and Arthur Streeton and were predominantly small paintings on cedar cigar-box lids many measuring 9 inches x 5 inches (22.9cm x 12.7cm). The cigar lids were obtained by Louis Abrahams from his father, an importer of cigars. Some of the works were framed in red-pine mouldings obtained by Tom Roberts.
