Painter, signed a view of Sydney Harbour 'Montague’, dated 1866 (Bathurst Regional Art Gallery). Sydney street directories list Fearnleigh L. Montague, artist, at Foy Street, Balmain in 1871 and at 'Eagle Nest’, Balmain in 1873.
He worked in NSW, Victoria, Tasmania and NZ in the 1870s and 1880s, exhibiting with the NSW Academy of Art in the 1870s and with the Victorian Artists’ Society in 1877 and 1878. Mount Warning, New South Wales 1875, oil on canvas, is in the Art Gallery NSW, purchased 1972.
Apparently working in the USA by 1879.
