John Atkinson

Watercolour painter and drawing master who lived and painted in Van Diemen's Land during the 1830s. In 1833 Atkinson and his wife opened the Stanwell Hall Establishment for Young Ladies where his wife, who taught music, was widely recognised as the family's major breadwinner - extravagent habits and a charge of drunkenness led to Atkinson's resignation as schoolmaster in 1836.
