Alfred Chan was born in 1853. He was a woodcarver and upholsterer who was listed in the 1884-89 Almanacks. Chan was based in Western Australia.

Woodcarver and upholsterer who was the son of Hookam and Hannah both born in India and who had arrived with Morley in 1829. Chan is listed in the 1884-89 Almanacks as an upholsterer and woodcarver. In 1891 he was in Perth, by 1895-97 he was in Newcastle Street and he altered his name to Tchan. He served in Boer War.
