professional photographer, was in Sydney by January 1861, at which time he claimed to have been a pupil of 'Dr. Diamond, Photographer to the Royal Family and Editor of the Photographic Journal’. La Mert gave his address as 309 George Street, over Fotheringham & Mullen’s Auction Rooms. In March 1862 he was advertising that in order to meet increased demand he would in future take four likenesses for 10s 6d or ten for a guinea. In June he stated that he was about to resume business at the same address, having just recovered from a severe accident. He was listed in a Sydney directory for 1863, but by 1865 he was in partnership with Daniel Louis Mundy at Christchurch, New Zealand.
