Born in Pukayiyirna, Bugai Whyoulter was taken north by her parents through Jigalong and Nullagine to Kunawarritji. After an early life walking and hunting around Punmu, Kunawarritji and Kunkun and travelling the Canning Stock Route, followed by a period of nomadic existence with her husband, she settled at Jigalong mission. Later, whilst living at Kunawarritji, she was taught to paint by Nora Nungabar and Nora Wompi, with whom she continued to paint regularly.
