C.B. Birch was an English sculptor who received commissions to create work in Australia, including for the Australian Joint Stock Bank in Sydney, this despite never having actually visited Australia. His work also featured as part of the British Loan Collection that was exhibited at the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition in 1888.

A bronze Retaliation by C.B. Birch, ARA, was exhibited in the 'British Loan Collection’ at the Melbourne Centennial International Exhibition of 1888-9, lent by the sculptor.
