Calcutt began exhibiting functional etched pewter works and jewellery in the 1960s, working from a residential studio in Mt Waverly, Victoria (data from descendent). She also painted, worked in ceramics and other metals. She was self-taught ("Metal Engraving from a book," The Age, 7 October 1965, page 20) and also trained as a pilot. She exhibited in craft shows and retail outlets.
