Colonial male watercolourist who travelled around South Australia and Queensland in 1868 as part of a world tour. Allen painted landscapes as he went and on returning to London wrote an unillustrated memoir about the Queensland goldfields.
watercolourist and traveller, sailed around the world in 1862-69 and spent several months in Queensland in 1868. Sketches signed 'C.H. Allen’ (NLA) reveal that South Australia was also on his itinerary ( Adelaide Hills ). The Queensland sketches Gracemere Jany/68 – the Archer family property near Rockhampton – Port Bowen, Qld and Townsville . Charles H. Allen subsequently published A Visit to Queensland and her Goldfields (London, 1870). His book, however, was not illustrated.
