painter, journalist and politician, was born on 1 July 1830 in Birmingham, England. He came to Melbourne about 1854 and subsequently had a most successful career in South Australia as a journalist and, later, member of the House of Assembly. He was also an amateur oil painter. Three surviving landscapes and one portrait are known (private collection). He died on 14 October 1899.
