Born “in the bush” near Jupiter Well c. 1945, Elizabeth Nyumi is a Pintupi speaker. She began painting for Warlayirti Artists in 1988. The artist is unusual in that all her works are variations on one theme associated with her traditional country, Tapinna/Nyunkun, near Jupiter Well, which lies several hundred kilometres to the south-west of where she currently lives, in Billiluna. The reasons for her sticking to this one subject are unclear, but it is interesting to follow the various ways that she paints it. All her works however deal with women’s concerns and Women’s Law (Tingari cycle) in the desert area. She is married to painter Palmer Gordon .
