illustrator(?), signed an elaborate pencil drawing of a couple huddled on a rock in the foreground with a large verandahed building beside a jetty in the distance, entitled The last day of summer and dated 1900. It was in a private collection in January 1998, inherited from an elderly aunt. Looks like story illustration ( Lone Hand too late – began publishing only in 1907; a male Purves did lots of writing for the Australasian in the late 19th century.)
