Burke founded Australia's first textile screen-printing business, Burway Prints, in Melbourne in 1937. Celebrated for her creative and abstract appropriations of Aboriginal designs and Australian fauna and flora, Burke's success was a testament to her belief in the inherent value and viability of a modern Australian aesthetic. She was also an active member of the art and design communities.
