photographer and marine artist, had a photographic studio in Newcastle from 1895 to 1901, first at Scott, then Watt Street. He employed artists including Reginald Borstel and Alfred Dufty (c.1905) to do ship portraits from and for his photographs. West also advertised as a marine artist himself from his studio in Scott Street and signed an 1895 oil on canvas ship portrait of the King Arthur leaving Newcastle Harbour (Mitchell Library).
