Lesser known than her sister, the painter Mary Jane Scott, Henrietta nevertheless was a competent sketcher who studied under one of Australia's famous early painters, Conrad Martens.
sketcher, was one of the four daughters of Portia and George Barney and a sister of the better-known artist Maria Jane Scott . Both took drawing lessons from Conrad Martens . An initialled, very competent, pencil drawing of a harbour scene that Henrietta contributed to one of Maria Jane’s albums (ML) is stylistically indistinguishable from a similar view by her sister. Many years later Henrietta presented one of Maria Jane’s watercolours of Sydney Harbour to the Mitchell Library, but no further works by Henrietta are known. She married Robert Deane in 1860 and was still alive in 1911.
