professional photographer, commercial traveller and chemist, was in partnership with W.A. Francis at the Adelaide Photographic Institution, 97 Rundle Street, Adelaide, from about 1862. That year A.B. (Gus) Peirce , a recent arrival from Melbourne, exhibited his photographs overpainted in watercolours in their shop. In 1865 Anson & Francis advertised that their firm had shown 'some very well executed photographs’ in the Society of Arts’ exhibition the previous year, but by the end of 1866 Anson alone was advertising as a photographer from this address. Then in 1868, with his wife Emily, their three daughters and two sons, he moved to Gympie, Queensland.
