etcher, born Brighton, Vic. Studied art in Melbourne with Charles Nuttall, then at RA Schools, London under Walter Sickert after moving there in 1924. He worked in London in comparative obscurity until making his name with a drypoint etching of King George VI purchased by Queen Mary in 1939.
