Henry Stilling, also known as ‘Harry’, was a photographer based for some time at Saddleworth in South Australia’s mid-north. He is listed in the town’s directories throughout the years 1910 to 1915. He is also recorded as having exhibited a collection of photographs in the 1908 Saddleworth Show, whilst a set of 1909 images depicts an event in the neighbouring town of Riverton, alluding to his presence in the region prior to 1910.
Stilling is recognised for the many postcards he produced, often illustrating local scenes. A set of three postcards survive that document a balloon ascent, which took place on 27 January 1909 in Riverton, whilst a large audience looked on. It is believed his sister, Alice, assisted Stilling in his dark room. He died in 1948.
