painter, produced a competent, undated, oil painting of Sydney Cove (ML) which her son, Colonel Barnett Anley, bequeathed to the City of Sydney in 1935, when he was 92. He noted: 'At the time this picture was painted, my father, Captain Philip Nicholle Anley (17th Foot Leicestershire Regt), was stationed at Maitland. This was before I was born.’ The picture includes Sydney’s new Government House, which was by not completed until 1850, although it was underway in 1843 when Col. Anley believed the work was painted.
