'Mr Caire’ was awarded a special prize of £3 for his still life subject in the exhibition of works by students of the Melbourne National Gallery School in 1889 ( Illustrated Sydney News 28 November 1889, 24). J.W. Caire won first prize for still life at the National Gallery School, Melbourne, in 1891.
