'Mr Caire’ was awarded a special prize of £3 for his still life subject in the exhibition of works by students of the Melbourne National Gallery School in 1889 (Illustrated Sydney News 28 November 1889, 24). J.W. Caire won first prize for still life at the National Gallery School, Melbourne, in 1891.
