James Ogle Burgess, late RN, son of the late Rev. J.R. Burgess, married Eleanor Marie Evans, youngest daughter of Michael Evans of Flint House, New Town, Tasmania, on 3 June 1876, at St John’s Church, New Town ( Mercury 10 June 1876, supplement p.2).

Exhibited with Art Society of NSW in 1880, 1881 and 1883.

First exhibition of Art Society of NSW in 1880: 'Mr Burgess has an animated sketch of “HMS Phoebe in a Gale”’ ( Sydney Morning Herald 23 December 1880, 3).
