Illustrator and cartoonist, was born in St Arnaud, Victoria. She studied art at Swinburne Technical School and became a professional illustrator. She illustrated many children’s books, including The Adventures of Margery Pym by Rosalind Miller (London, Hutchinson, n.d. [probably 1940s]) and Whirlaway: a story of the ages written by HCF Morant (London: Hutchison, 1937: copy McLaren Collection, Baillieu Library).

Elder was the major cartoonist in Tall Stories: Being a selection of the stories submitted to 3DB by members of the Tall Story Club , printed and published by Edgar H. Baillie of Balaclava Road, Caulfield, for United Press “Herald” Buildings, Flinders Street, Melbourne, 6d.
