painter, was included as a professional artist in the art exhibition organised by M. Maurice in Launceston in 1885. Joshua Higgs’ watercolour Low Head, Tasmania, 1891, showing the construction of the 'new’ lighthouse at Low Head was included in Sotheby’s The Colonial Sale, Hobart, on 7 September 1997, lot 35. J. Kerr and G.T. Stilwell noted paintings by Higgs in a private collection, Mt Ireh, Tasmania, in 1991-2. Other Tasmanian watercolours are known, including a view of the Old Toll Gate at the mouth of Cataract Gorge, Launceston (cited McCulloch).
