Mabel Florence Kirby Shannon was a watercolour painter and short-story writer. Shannon was judged first in woodcarving at the 1911 Toowoomba Show.

watercolour painter and short-story writer, was the eldest of the four daughters of Margaret, née Young, and John Shannon. She painted watercolours and wrote short stories in youth. At the 1911 Toowoomba Show Miss M. Shannon was judged first in woodcarving by Mr F. Crook – from 3 entries – her sister Ruby and Miss Evans of Warwick being highly commended. Judge Mr. W.B. Harrison praised Miss M. J. [sic] Shannon’s watercolour landscapes in a review of the exhibition on 19 April 1911 (newspaper cutting in family album Central Queensland University). In 1915 Mabel married Norman McIntyre, an engineer, and they lived at Yambacollie. They retired to Toowoomba.
