teacher, was reputedly teaching drawing at Sydney in 1841 when 7-year-old Mary Harriet Gedye was said to be among her pupils. She was not, however, listed in Sydney until the Fords’ Sydney Directory for 1851 noted that she was running a ladies’ seminary at Nithdale Cottage, Elizabeth Street, so perhaps Gedye’s lessons occurred somewhat later than she recollected.
