Margo Lewers was a painter and an admirer of the Bauhaus movement design movement which she experienced during travels in Germany in 1934. She was also active as a commercial artist, textile designer, potter and gallery manager [Notanda, Rowe Street, Sydney, closed in 1939].As a leading abstract expressionist painter, she received favourable reviews, won many awards and her work was included in major exhibitions.

Description

A Manly Art Gallery & Museum Touring Exhibition with the support of Visions of Australia. Exhibition examines the career of one of Australia’s most outstanding female abstract expressionists, presents Lewers’ vibrant, colour-laden and imaginative paintings, complemented by her lesser known yet innovative fabric works, plexiglass sculpture and tapestry. The exhibition also looks at her major public commissions throughout Australia and in particular Canberra.
