Baas was a flower painter who exhibited with the Royal Art Society of New South Wales in 1886. A later exhibition in 1890 drew the attention of both the Sydney Morning Herald and the Illustrated Sydney News.

Exhibition at Messrs Callan’s: “A still-life study, 'Roses’, by Miss Marie Baass, is worthy of mention” ( Sydney Morning Herald 10 April 1890, p.3). “Miss Baas also exhibits flower paintings of much more than average merit” ( Illustrated Sydney News 1 May 1890, p.19).
