art student, was taught drawing at the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts by Edmund Thomas. F.C. Terry examined Thomas’s drawing class at the end of 1865 and reported that 'Of the few (five in all) pupils I met, Master Anderson stands highest in my estimation and Mallarky next’.
