Born on 1 July 1948 at Docker River, Matala Dixon is a Pitjantjatjara speaker who lives at Mutitjulu community, Uluru. Her country is the Petermann Ranges, for which she paints Papa (Dog), Tjerla (Honey Ant) and Kuniya (Carpet Python) Dreamings. She is married to Ross Dixon, also a painter. They have two daughters, Monica and Ruth. Matala has been painting since 1983 and sells her work through Maruku Arts and Crafts.
