Mavis Stone, Kamilaroi artist, grew up on Toomelah Reserve, New South Wales. Stone has worked as a pharmacist’s assistant and sales assistant but had an interest in art from an early age. In 1988 she undertook a bridging course at Newcastle University and went on to graduate with a Bachelor of Arts (Visual Arts) in 1991. Stone has been a member of the Gamilarart Cooperative in Tamworth, and participated in a number of their exhibitions.
