Michael Meszaros has produced large-scale public sculptures, such as the copper birds at 350 St. Kilda Road, Melbourne, Victoria but he is perhaps best known for his work as a medalist. His design for the Australian Bicentenary Medal, which was presented to school children in 1988, was the second-largest medal issue in history.

Michael Meszaros was born in 1945, the son of Andor Meszaros, also a sculptor and medalist.

After first studying to become an architect during the 1960s, Meszaro was awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1969 to study medal-making in Rome, Italy at La Scuola Dell 'Art Della Medaglia.

Michael Meszaros medals are represented in numerous public collections, including Museum Victoria, the British Museum and the Royal Dutch Coin Collection, as well as many private collections in Europe, America, Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
