Mid 20th century comic book artist. Bertram turned traditional comics on their head by placing a woman in the central role in her comic strip 'Jo'. The heroine is still portrayed, however as an alluring woman, her posturing borrowing from 1940s pin-up girls. Bertram studied portrait painting, but was always drawn to her comics, which were usually action-packed and whimsical.
