The South Australian Advertiser noted that 'two or three paintings by a Mr. Beilby are second to none in the room. We allude particularly to no. 20, Ruins (a study), the coloring of which is uncommonly well executed’. On the other hand, the South Australian Register considered Beilby’s works 'rough in style’.
