professional photographer, was called a 'photographic artiste’ in 1868. Working from Burwood Road, Hawthorn, Melbourne, she produced cartes-de-visite. Under the heading 'Lady Photographers’, the Age had remarked in 1867 that while Mrs Aston was 'not the first lady photographer established in the colony’, her work was remarkably well-executed. The article noted that she had been carrying on her Hawthorn business 'for some time past’.
