China painter, potter, watercolourist and batik printer, studied at Ashton’s Sydney Art School under Mildred Lovett and Elioth Gruner. She travelled to England for a few months in 1924, setting up a studio at Wollstonecraft on her return later that year. In 1943, with Hetty Hirst, she delivered weekly craft talks on ABC radio and taught remedial craftwork in military hospitals. She became a member of the NSW Society of Arts & Crafts in 1918, exhibited with it until 1956 and was Life Governor in the 1960s. From 1939-45, she was the leader of the Society’s War Service Circle. In 1963 she donated to the Society, for sale, a collection of work by early members.

The AGNSW owns at least three china painted objects by Innes (exhibited 1991-92): a vase with pastoral design 1922 (purchased 1978), a teapot with fuschia design 1928, possibly exhibited in the Society’s 1928 annual exhibition (purchased 1978), and a cup and saucer with dragon fly design n.d. (purchased 1978)

Innes also exhibited with the Society of Artists of NSW, the Women Painters Society and its successor the Women’s Industrial Society (1930s); she was included in the 1935 'Women Painters of Australia’ exhibition.
