N.P. Briggs was mistakenly attributed as the painter for a portrait of Francis Forbes, but Conway Hart has been has been identified as the artist.

painter, was given in the catalogue of the 1847 exhibition of the Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Australia as the artist of the portrait, The Late Sir Francis Forbes , lent by the Sydney College. This seems to have been a mistake. The only oil portrait of Forbes known to have been in the college’s collection at the time was painted in England by Conway Hart . Subsequently acquired by Sydney University, Hart’s portrait has now been returned to Sydney Grammar School, successor to the Sydney College.
