Campbell’s pen and ink etching, taken in the village of Robertson, was commended’ (Sydney Mail, 25 April 1874).

Fourth annual exhibition of NSW Academy of Art 1875: Campbell, R.J. – amateur – NSW – no.153 Study – Old Woman’s Head; no.154 The Big Bogong; no.155 Crisp’s Waterfall; no.156 The Wallaby Rocks; no.157 Crack-em-back Range; no.158 Monaro Table-land; no.159 Buckley’s Crossing – last six listed as views in the Monaro in pen and ink (Sydney Mail 3 April 1875).

Possibly the same artist as J. R. Campbell – amateur – NSW – no.132 View of Snowy Mountains, Monaro, from Cottage Creek Range – pen and ink – original; no.133 Sawyer’s Gully, Kangaroo River – pen and ink – original; no.134 Waterfalls, Burraway Creek – pen and ink – original. 'Some pen and ink sketches by Mr J. R. Campbell evinced considerable taste’ (Sydney Mail 3 April 1875).
