sketcher and art student, received a prize of 2 guineas for the best outline drawing – Faust and Wagner —at the 1859 exhibition of the South Australian Society of Arts. R. Watson also showed Madonna and Child and Spenser Reading the Faerie Queen , presumably other pen-and-ink drawings. Such copying was part of the curriculum at the South Australian School of Design under Charles Hill , where Watson was presumably a student.
