Rita Jones

Art student, was a pupil of J. S. Bowman in Melbourne, as her Miss Mafra Jones who is presumed to be her sister. They both entered the Sydney Academy of Arts exhibition, however, it was Mafra who won the certificate of merit, not Rita.

Paintings at the 1877 Sydney Academy of Arts exhibition by 'art students, not pupils of the Academy’ included: 'Miss Rita Jones (pupil of Mr J.S. Bowman, Melbourne) “Fall on Skeleton Creek”, no.139’. Another Bowman pupil, Miss Mafra Jones, who won a certificate of merit at the same exhibition, was presumably Rita’s sister.
