Rodrick Collard is a Nyoongar man of the Wilman tribe of Western Australia. He was born in 1951 at Pingelly, approximately 150 kilometres south-east of Perth. He grew up in Boddington and Pinjarra. Collard came to visual art in 2001 when he undertook a TAFE course in Aboriginal Visual Arts. His inspiration comes from his Aboriginal ancestry.

In 2005 he presented his first solo exhibition at the Kidogo Arthouse in Fremantle. In 2009, he enrolled in a Certificate III course in Visual Art and Contemporary Craft at the Kidogo Art Institute. Collard has been included in many group shows including 'Moorditj Mob’ at the Kidogo Arthouse in 2009.
