sketcher and naval officer, was a lieutenant in the Royal Navy who came to New Zealand and the east coast of Australia aboard HMSUrgent in the mid 1840s. He drew several Sydney views, including Botany Bay [La Perouse Monument] (ink and wash), and Orphan Asylum Parramatta River Sydney. Feby. 1845 , a watercolour wash, is attributed to him. Godfrey also made views of Auckland and the New Zealand coastline, plus an attributed wash drawing en route to Australia Bass Straits. Augt. 20th 1844 . All known subjects of Australian interest are in a sketchbook held at the Mitchell Library.
